No Denying It’s a Mercedes-Benz
The 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLS is a powerful SUV filled with luxurious features, unexpected options, and roomy interior space. This full-size luxury SUV is at the pinnacle of the Mercedes-Benz lineup, and after looking at the features it’s easy to see why it’s become a top choice for drivers who want the best.
Powerful Performance Features
The 2022 Mercedes-Benz features focus on the exceptional powertrains in its two trim levels. The GLS 450 comes with a 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine that delivers 362 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque. Buyers who want more horsepower can choose the GLS 580 with a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 that delivers 483 horses and 516 lb-ft of torque.
Both models come with standard all-wheel-drive for a confident and smooth ride thanks to its standard air suspension. The nine-speed automatic transmission also adds to the comfortable ride.
Mercedes-Benz added a unique optional feature called the E-Active Body Control that uses a forward-facing camera that looks for potholes and bumps in the road. Once it identifies them, it adjusts the air suspension to keep the passengers comfortable.
Despite being a full-size SUV, the Mercedes-Benz GLS gets surprisingly efficient gas mileage. The GLS 450 gets an EPA-estimated fuel economy of 20/24 MPG, while the GLS 580 gets an EPA-estimated fuel economy of 16/21. Both models also have a mild 48-volt hybrid system for added performance and fuel economy.
Semi-Autonomous Driver-Assistive Features
Each GLS model comes with several standard driver-assistive features. The list includes Blind Spot Assist, Active Brake Assist, Attention Assist, Active Parking Assist with Surround View, Pre-Safe System with Pre-Safe Sound, and Parking Damage Detection.
Another exciting feature in the GLS is Car-to-X Communication, which includes a radio system that allows the Mercedes-Benz to communicate with other vehicles to reduce collisions.
The Pre-Safe Sound feature is another luxury safety feature that protects the driver’s and passenger’s ears by emitting a quick sound if it detects an imminent collision. The sound triggers a protective reflex in the human ear to reduce hearing loss as a result of the potential collision.
Buyers can add the latest generation of driver-assistive features to turn the GLS into a semi-autonomous vehicle. Optional features include Active Distance Assist, Active Stop-and-Go Assist, Active Steering Assist with Active Lane Change Assist, and Active Speed Limit Assist.
Loaded with High-Tech Information and Entertainment Features
Mercedes-Benz includes some next-level high-tech features on the 2022 GLS. It includes a pair of 12.3-inch displays for instrumentation and multimedia. A navigation system, inductive wireless charging, and SiriusXM Radio are standard, along with the Burmester Surround Sound System and 64-color ambient lighting.
A unique luxury feature is Carwash Mode which prepares the GLS for cleaning by folding the mirrors, lifting the SUV, and pausing the automatic windshield wipers. It also comes with the Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) with Voice Control as well as convenient touchpads and steering wheel controls.
The 2022 GLS also comes pre-wired for a rear-seat entertainment system, nine USB ports, and Smartphone Integration with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Luxurious and Comfortable Styling Details
At first glance on the inside and out, the GLS is pure Mercedes-Benz. The attractive curves and bold three-pronged star logo stand out on the outside, as do the standard 20-inch wheels on the GLS 450 and 21-inch wheels on the GLS 580.
On the inside, the GLS comes with high-quality leather seats. The heated front seats also have cooling ventilation. The GLS 580 has standard massaging seats, and buyers can add the option in the GLS 450. Buyers can also choose optional heated and cooled cup holders and an executive seating package with heated and ventilated rear seats.
The GLS comes standard with seven seats and three rows, while the upgraded version includes six captain’s chairs with two in each row.
